Principal's Message

Dear Partners in Education,

The entire staff and I wish a warm welcome to all new and returning Manordale families! We’ve had a terrific startup and it has been a pleasure to see the smiles and excitement on the faces of our wonderful students. It has also been a pleasure meeting many of you and seeing the dedication and commitment you have for your child(ren).

As many of you already know, we had renovations occur over the summer where new lighting was installed in the hallways and Tempered AC ventilation units were installed in the classrooms.  This resulted in our staff not having access to their classrooms until the Labour Day Long Weekend.  Even though they didn’t have to, it was an incredible and humbling experience to see staff coming in over the long weekend to set up their rooms for students.  Our staff have hit the ground running and are focusing on establishing routines and practices that will ensure a smooth year. A huge thanks also to Ms. Larocque and the custodial staff for their tremendous work in ensuring the school was ready for teachers when they arrived labour day weekend.  Finally, thank you to Mrs. Charles and Mrs. Cameron, who have worked tirelessly to prepare for the new year and assist incoming students and answer parent questions.

We’re looking forward to seeing you during our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 20th from 5:30 p.m - 7:00 pm.  This will be followed by a parent activity from 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm.  Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be held this evening.

We have several staff that have joined us on a temporary basis.  Ms. Shaver,   Mr. El-Khattaby, and Mrs. Devine will be covering for Mrs. Dhillon, Madame France, and Mrs. Piers respectively until their return.

This year, in addition to our numerous academic and co-curricular opportunities, we are focusing on a “Parents as Partners in Education” workshop series. Throughout the year, we will hold a number of workshops. These workshops will further enable you to support us in maximizing our efforts at school. In October, we will be holding an interactive parent workshop called “How Kids Learn”. This information will help you to learn how to help your child(ren) at home.  Feedback from previous participants is that this workshop helped them understand themselves, their friends, and their co-workers as well. Some lucky participants will also win prizes via our random draws. More information will be sent home once the dates have been finalized. Our School Council elections will be held on Monday, September 24th at 7:00 pm in the library At this time we will hold council elections. I encourage you to consider joining our School Council. We look forward to working with you, your child(ren), and our broader community in what we’re sure will be a fabulous year!

Yours sincerely,

Hanif Jamal, Principal
